MeltMet Technologies was founded in 2010 by Dr. A. Stewart Ballantyne to provide technical services related to the melting of specialty alloys with emphasis on Electroslag and Vacuum Arc Remelting. Dr. Ballantyne was one of the early developers of models of the remelt processes, and has over 30 years experience in the specialty metals industry in both production and R&D positions, overseeing technical operations and research projects related to the melting of superalloy materials.
In recent years, Dr. Ballantyne has focused on the development of ESR and VAR process simulators having an engineering focus to provide tools for manufacturing personnel to assist in the development, understanding, and optimization of ESR and VAR remelt practices. These simulators all incorporate boundary conditions which can be specified by the user based on their knowledge of their own specific furnace, or can be allowed to default to a set of generic values. Thermophysical properties of alloys and slags are specified by the user to a level of detail commensurate with their knowledge.
